About this release
Awaken, My Love! turns Childish Gambino’s focus towards singing, psychedelic soul, funk and R&B. Donald Glover and longtime collaborator Ludwig Göransson produced the 2016 album, shaping a sound that moves from the dramatic opening of Me And Your Mama to the measured groove of Redbone. Have Some Love, Boogieman and Zombies explore different shades of that approach, while Riot adds a brief burst of energy. The second side moves through California, Terrified and Baby Boy before The Night Me And Your Mama Met and Stand Tall close the record. It marks a clear change from the rap-led direction of his earlier albums.
