About this release
DJ Aakmael’s second Aakmaeledits release places jazz vocals against raw deep house grooves, drawing contrasts between the softness of the voices and the weight of the drums. Crazy builds around a heavy kick, dramatic strings and sharp snare accents. Luva takes a more relaxed approach, with guitar phrases winding through the rhythm. On the reverse, Strange Fruit uses a rougher drum texture and restrained keyboard chords, leaving space around the echoing vocal. I Didn’t Know closes with a brighter house feel and further jazz touches. The edits keep the focus on vocal fragments, rhythmic repetition and the character of the sampled performances.
