About this release
Don Cherry and Okay Temiz’s Music For Turkish Theater 1970 documents their contribution to an Istanbul stage production associated with James Baldwin and Engin Cezzar. The nine pieces bring together the musicians’ free jazz approach in a theatrical setting, including ‘Calculating Empires’, ‘Okay’s 5/8’ and two takes each of ‘1969’ and ‘Naive’. Caz Plak restored the recording from the original master tape, with Shawn Joseph handling remastering and the vinyl cut at Optimum Mastering in Bristol. The gatefold LP includes an obi and liner notes by Zeynep Oral, Gökhan Akçura, Okay Temiz and producer Erinç Güzel.
