EPMD - Strictly Business

Strictly Business captures EPMD's early approach to hip-hop: Erick Sermon and Parrish Smith trading lines over a compact, funk-led beat. The title track from their 1988 debut album combines drums from Kool & The Gang's Jungle Boogie with a loop from Eric Clapton's I Shot The Sheriff, leaving space for the duo's relaxed delivery and boasts. The production relies on the interplay between those samples rather than dense layers of sound. This Mr Bongo 7-inch reissue pairs the radio mix with the instrumental, allowing the same rhythm and sample arrangement to be heard without the vocals.
