About this release
Impressions Of Samos brings Greg Foat together with Sokratis Votskos and The Giorgos Pappas Trio for a collaboration shaped by Greek folk music and the island's surroundings. Grand piano and synthesizer meet traditional instruments and field recordings, connecting modal jazz with local melodies and environmental sound. The timbres of duduk and oud sit within arrangements that move between folk-based pieces and more open soundscapes. Made during Foat's visit to Greece, the album follows his interest in extending jazz composition through different instrumental settings, with texture and a sense of place guiding the collaboration.
