About this release
Herman Kelly & Life’s Percussion Explosion! puts the Miami group’s drums and percussion at the centre of six disco, funk and Latin-influenced recordings. Originally released in 1978, the album includes “Dance To The Drummer’s Beat”, whose break became a foundation for later hip-hop and dance productions. This Mr Bongo reissue uses the 4:12 Alston version, rather than the longer Electric Cat recording with added crowd noise and percussion. Beyond the opener, “Share Your Love” brings a soulful groove, “A Refreshing Love” introduces Latin colours, and “Who’s The Funky D.J.?” stretches into an extended disco-funk workout. The LP is housed in a tip-on sleeve.
