About this release
Ian Carr's Belladonna brings atmospheric jazz-rock and darker fusion together in a six-track album originally released on Vertigo in 1972. Carr's trumpet is joined by musicians including Allan Holdsworth on guitar, Brian Smith on reeds and flutes, Dave MacRae on electric piano and Roy Babbington on bass. Summer Rain offers a gentler passage of electric piano, while Mayday builds through an extended introduction before its drums arrive. The playing moves between spacious textures and more forceful rhythmic sections, with Holdsworth's guitar adding a progressive-rock edge. Mr Bongo's gatefold LP is half-speed mastered by Miles Showell at Abbey Road Studios.
