About this release
Index's Starlight brings together the elements that shaped Brit-funk: funk rhythm, disco movement, soul vocals and jazz-influenced playing. Originally released in 1981, the track builds its groove around bright keyboards, a prominent bass line and rhythm guitar, with male and female voices sharing the vocal arrangement. Starlight (The Break) occupies the reverse, setting the vocals aside to bring the instrumental interplay forward. Record Shack's remastered twelve-inch reissue pairs the two versions, letting the song's vocal character and the band's groove work separately across the record's two sides.
