About this release
Smoke introduces Fremantle-based producer Jon E. across three tracks on Natural Element’s first release. The EP connects jazz-inflected house with broken beat, moving between a steady pulse and looser rhythmic patterns. “New Ventures” takes the A-side, pairing a prominent bassline with synths that weave through the groove. On the reverse, “Sunflowers” brings off-centre drums, strings and an extended synth lead, before “Where & When” closes with piano stabs and vocals from Aasheiaa. Produced and recorded by Jonathan Elliot, the record gives each track its own character while maintaining a warm, fluid approach to bass, keys and percussion.
