About this release
Karantamba's Galgi captures Bai Janha's band in 1988, four years after the sessions for Ndigal. Recorded at Studio Wings in Dakar, the seven tracks bring electric guitars and synthesisers into the group's Afro-Manding sound. Ndey Nyang's vocals give these recordings a different character from the band's earlier work, alongside Janha's guitar, keyboards and singing. Teranga Beat prepared the album from the original reel tapes, with mastering by Stephanos Konstantinidis. The title means 'slave ship' in Wolof, and the title track remembers victims of the Atlantic slave trade. This LP comes in a matte gatefold sleeve with photographs and liner notes.
