About this release
Kumoyo Island is Kikagaku Moyo’s fifth and final studio album, recorded at Guruguru Studio in Amsterdam and Tsubame Studio in Tokyo. Returning to a familiar recording space gave the band time to develop the demos and fragments they had gathered while touring. Monaka draws melodic inspiration from minyo folk music, while Yayoi, Iyayoi uses Japanese lyrics informed by old poetry and nature books. Meu Mar reworks an Erasmo Carlos song, translating its words through English into Japanese. Across eleven tracks, the album brings those influences into the group’s expansive psychedelic rock sound. This edition comes on black vinyl in a gatefold sleeve.
