About this release
Mysticisms’ fifth Dubplate release revisits Digi Dub, the label rooted in southeast London’s late-eighties and early-nineties squat and sound-system culture. Lee Berwick’s work with L.S. Diezel and Launch DAT brought reggae into contact with punk, electronic experimentation and sampler-led production. For The Love Of presents the more melodic, lovers-style side of that sound, with Bad Boys providing a stripped-back steppers counterpart. Suicidal Dub points towards the heavier rhythmic possibilities that would later inform dubstep, while Skunk Funk explores the meeting of digital dub and hip-hop. Together, the four tracks document a distinctive strain of British underground dub.
