About this release
Detached From The Rest Of You brings Loraine James’ electronic production into more direct song forms, leaving space around her voice and those of her collaborators. Drawing on the clicks-and-cuts approach associated with Aoki Takamasa and Ryoji Ikeda, the album uses precise glitches and pared-back textures to carry writing about confidence, self-doubt and change. James sings, talks and raps within arrangements that allow her guests to take distinct paths. Contributions from Sydney Spann, Anysia Kym, Miho Hatori, Alan Sparhawk, Tirzah and Le3 bLACK widen the vocal palette, with Fyn Dobson adding drums. The result keeps her rhythmic sensibility while giving the songs a more exposed, intimate shape.
