About this release
Music From The East presents Ammar El Sherei, also credited as Omar El Shariyi, interpreting seven compositions by Mohamed Abdel Wahab. Recorded for Soutelphan in 1976, the instrumental album combines Arabic melodies with funk-influenced arrangements and experiments on electric keyboards. El Kamh, Abgad Hawaz and the extended Enta Enta show different aspects of the Egyptian composer’s approach, keeping the familiar compositions open to new textures and rhythmic settings. Curated and annotated by Mario Choueiry of the Institut du Monde Arabe in Paris, the Wewantsounds reissue includes newly remastered audio, original artwork and a two-page insert.
