About this release
Krakow quintet Omasta bring live instrumental hip-hop and seventies jazz-funk together on their debut album for Astigmatic Records. Thick drums and bass underpin piano, Rhodes, synthesizer, trumpet, soprano saxophone and flute, drawing on the beat sensibilities of J Dilla and Madlib alongside the music of Roy Ayers and Donald Byrd. The group’s collective writing grew from a live project launched with a J Dilla tribute in 2024. Recorded at Warsaw’s Studio Pasterka in January 2025, Jazz Report from the Hood was mixed and mastered by Eprom. Its city-life themes carry through tracks including ‘Cornerstone’, ‘Dead End’ and ‘Kazimierz’.
