About this release
Remi Kabaka’s Son Of Africa documents a meeting of West African rhythm and the British funk scene of the 1970s. Originally issued by Island in 1976, the album followed Kabaka’s session and live work with musicians from across British rock. Its ten tracks concentrate on spare, rhythmic arrangements, with Kabaka, New Reggae Funk and African Hustle among the selections. BBE’s reissue returns the music to vinyl with updated liner notes, placing the album within the wider history of Black British and West African musical exchange. The programme is spread across two records cut to play at 45rpm.
