About this release
Roland Haynes Jr. & Phenix stretch out at the Quarter Moon club in Orangeburg, South Carolina, on this selection from Haynes' personal live archive. The band pairs original compositions with interpretations of music by Marvin Gaye, Santana, Hubert Laws and The Jeff Lorber Fusion. Across four sides, the programme ranges from What's Going On to Europa, with an interview included alongside the performances. Haynes and Phenix previously appeared on the 1983 single Mind Games, but these recordings offer a wider view of their playing together. Athens Of The North presents the eight selections as a double LP.
