About this release
Roy Davis Jr and Peven Everett’s Gabriel brings soulful vocals and a distinctive trumpet melody to a loose, shuffling groove. A landmark connection between Chicago house and the emerging UK garage scene, the track found its most enduring form in the Live Garage Mix, where Everett’s voice and the spacious rhythm give the song its unmistakable warmth.
This Large Music 12-inch gathers four versions, including The Scroll Mix, Tamborine Dub and Words To Give By alongside the Live Garage Mix. Together they offer different ways into the same song, from deeper house arrangements to the garage treatment that made Gabriel a dancefloor favourite. A vocal record with enough character to hold its place in a set across generations.
