About this release
Originally released on Saturn in 1979, Sleeping Beauty captures a gentler side of Sun Ra and his Arkestra, combining soulful ensemble playing with meditative funk and spacious jazz arrangements. Springtime Again and Door Of The Cosmos occupy the first side, while the title track fills the reverse. Recorded during Ra’s productive period at New York’s Variety Recording Studios, the album features players including John Gilmore, Marshall Allen and June Tyson. This Strut reissue is remastered by Technology Works and housed in a heavyweight card sleeve with embossed artwork, alongside liner notes by Knoel Scott and Paul Griffiths.
