About this release
Takuya Kuroda’s Rising Son brings the trumpeter’s melodic playing together with jazz fusion, soul and Afrobeat rhythms. Originally released by Blue Note in 2014, the album was produced predominantly by José James, with Nate Smith on drums, Solomon Dorsey on bass, Corey King on trombone and Kris Bowers on keys. The programme includes Roy Ayers’ “Everybody Loves The Sunshine”, balancing familiar material with Kuroda’s compositions. This First Word Records double-vinyl reissue adds Joe Armon-Jones’ remix of that song as a ninth track, following the full original album. Its grooves leave space for the horn lines and keyboard interplay.
