About this release
Trinka’s debut EP brings together Dandara Modesto’s voice, João Pires’ guitar and Juninho Ibituruna’s percussion across six songs. Conceived and made in Lisbon, the project connects the musicians’ Brazilian and Portuguese backgrounds through Afro-Brazilian rhythms, melodies and lyrics by writers from the wider Portuguese-speaking world, including José Eduardo Agualusa. Modesto’s interpretive singing meets Pires’ arrangements and Ibituruna’s rhythmic playing in music that moves between Bahia, Minas Gerais and Portugal. Dois No Ilê opens the record, followed by Grego and Navega, with three further pieces completing the reverse. Released by Agogo, the EP places that three-way collaboration at its centre.
