About this release
Kaiso Power: Sound Revolution In Trinidad 1970-1980 explores a decade of jazz, calypso and percussion-led recordings from Trinidad and Tobago. Curated by Wajang Diskotheque and compiled by Merten Kaatz and Hugo Mendez, the collection connects artists including Clive Zanda, Lancelot Layne, Andre Tanker and Black Truth Rhythm Band. Its songs reflect a generation linking music with political change and renewed spiritual consciousness, with African rhythmic traditions continuing through the arrangements. Attillah Springer contributes research and liner notes, placing the recordings in their cultural setting. Frank Merritt mastered and cut the album at The Carvery for this Soundway release.
