About this release
Afrosynth’s ‘Music Team Sampler’ gathers six recordings from the South African label’s catalogue, originally released between 1986 and 1992. Isaac ‘Cool Cat’ Mofokeng, Linda, Jappie Lebona and Thandi represent the melodic, synth-driven bubblegum sound, with songs centred on love and relationships. Two instrumentals point towards the emerging house and kwaito styles: Mr. Ace’s ‘Ace 1’ and The Hard Workers’ ‘Axe Chop’, the latter a studio project led by producer Tom Mkhize. The single-vinyl compilation moves from ‘Candy’ to Thandi’s ‘Instant Love (Eyami Lendoda)’, placing vocal songs and programmed instrumental grooves together across its two sides.
