About this release
Curated by Drew McFadden, Naive Melodies revisits Talking Heads through the Black musical traditions that helped shape the band's sound. The compilation brings soul, funk, Afrobeat, dub, jazz and electronic approaches to songs from across their catalogue, with interpretations from Liv.e, Bilal, Georgia Anne Muldrow, W.I.T.C.H. and others. Rogê turns Road To Nowhere towards samba-soul, while Pachyman's Sugar On My Tongue takes a dub direction. Rather than reproducing the original arrangements, the collection follows their rhythmic connections outward, linking the familiar songwriting to the musical innovations that informed it.
