Talking Drums - Vol. 9

Talking Drums bring four contrasting dancefloor cuts together on Vol. 9, moving between disco, Balearic funk, Italo and dance-punk. ‘Live Love Pump’ opens with filtered disco energy, its broad, club-ready sound nodding to the work of Patrick Cowley and Patrick Adams. ‘Sure Line’ eases into a looser AOR funk groove, pairing buoyant bass and brass with a slightly wistful coastal mood.

On the flip, ‘Un America’ locks into a midtempo Italo chug, driven by a persistent bass sequence, guitar and sharp synth effects. ‘Voodoo Dolls’ closes with eccentric vocals, scratchy guitars and a crooked, surf-tinged rhythm. It’s a varied four-tracker with room for both the big disco moment and the stranger selections later in a set. This limited 12-inch pressing includes a numbered insert.
