About this release
South Street Soul pairs two Kevin McCord productions from Alicia Myers’ 1981 solo debut, Alicia. ‘I Want To Thank You’ brings Myers’ voice to an uplifting boogie and soul arrangement, while ‘Don’t Stop What You’re Doin’’ offers another side of the same album’s rhythmic approach. McCord’s work with Al Hudson & The Soul Partners and One Way connects the recordings to a wider history of Detroit funk and R&B. The reverse also found a later audience through J Dilla’s sample for Slum Village’s ‘What It’s All About’, featuring Busta Rhymes. This licensed, remastered seven-inch presents the two original songs together.
