About this release
Fontana Rosa brings Carwyn Ellis & Rio 18’s Welsh-language connection with Latin music into a setting shaped by Chicano soul, Nuyorican pop and Salsoul disco. Recorded with Liam Watson at Toerag Studios and completed at Sain in North Wales, the album features Elan Rhys and Baldo Verdú on lead vocals, with Shawn Lee, Rupert Brown and Kassin among the core players. “Lovesick”, “Impossible” and “Heartbreaker” explore the soul influence, while “Mariposa”, “Te Adoro” and “La Quichimba” extend the group’s rhythmic range. The ten-track Légère Recordings LP captures musicians playing together, with the warmth and detail of the studio central to its sound.
