About this release
Church's How Long / Da Da Song returns on seven-inch through AYO Music Group, pairing the Bay Area band's two sides from 1976. Led by Joseph Washington, the group grew out of his earlier backing band Wash, adding gospel singer Linda Williams and xylophonist Joel Como. How Long blends saxophone, spiritual jazz touches and gospel-blues feeling around a plea for love. Da Da Song is leaner and more percussive, driven by tight drums and an urgent vocal delivery. Together they capture a group shaped by community music-making, garage rehearsals and neighbourhood performances in the early 1970s.
