About this release
Curtis Mayfield's Superfly soundtrack joins supple funk rhythms and orchestral soul to sharply observed storytelling. His floating falsetto gives Pusherman, Freddie's Dead and the title track their distinctive tension, while Junkie Chase and Think let the instrumental arrangements take the lead. Released with the 1972 film, the songs look beyond its street-level drama to examine poverty, drug dependence and the people caught within them. Wah-wah guitar, brass and bass provide a fluid musical setting for those concerns. This Rhino vinyl LP presents the original nine-track programme, from Little Child Runnin' Wild to the closing title song.
