About this release
Cymande's 1972 debut grew from the meeting of Caribbean-born musicians in London. Guitar, bass, horns and layered percussion underpin a blend the band called Nyah-Rock, drawing together funk, soul and the musical traditions of their West Indian backgrounds. The arrangements allow room for both group vocals and extended instrumental interplay, with Patrick Patterson's guitar and Steve Scipio's bass at the centre. 'Dove' stretches that approach across a long, unfolding performance, while 'Bra' and 'The Message' keep the rhythms tightly focused. This Partisan black vinyl edition presents the original nine-track album, remastered at Abbey Road Studios and housed in a gatefold sleeve.
