About this release
Dabeull’s Intimate Fonk brings vintage synthesizers and warm analogue textures to a vocal-led set of modern funk. Drawing on the late 1970s and early 1980s sounds of groups such as The Bar-Kays and Kleeer, the EP connects boogie rhythms with close, soulful collaborations. Holybrune joins Day & Night and You & I, while Darius and Kunta appear on Love You So Much. Jordan Lee contributes to Last Night, and Rush Davis and Rude Jude join the closing Dr. Fonk. Originally released in 2019, the record distils Dabeull’s interest in the machines and songwriting of that earlier era into concise contemporary songs.
