About this release
El Michels Affair's 24 Hr Sports brings more voices into Leon Michels' instrumental world, drawing on gospel, the sample-minded sound of MF DOOM's Special Herbs and the visual language of eighties and nineties sports magazines. Marching drums and brass introduce “Drumline”, before guests including Rogê, Florence Adooni, Clairo, Shintaro Sakamoto and Norah Jones give the album a changing vocal character. Dave Guy adds trumpet to “Oakley's Car Wash”, while “Take My Hand” brings the Fabulous Rainbow Singers together with a Rahsaan Roland Kirk saxophone passage. Across sixteen tracks, the arrangements move between rhythmic force and quieter melodic space. This is the standard black vinyl edition.
