About this release
Formed in California in 1979, Freeway combined jazz, soul and Christian songwriting on their sole album, recorded for New Born Records in 1981. Its arrangements bring together bright horns, boogie rhythms, funk bass and touches of progressive rock, reflecting a group working beyond the usual boundaries of its contemporary religious music scene. Vinyl Kitchen revisits the ten-track album for this 45th Anniversary Special Edition, with new liner notes and archival photographs accompanying the music. From the opening title track to I Need Your Love, the set moves between celebratory ensemble playing and more reflective songs.
