About this release
Greg Belson explores the gospel, soul and R&B catalogue of HOB on The House Of Beauty. Founded in Detroit by Carmen Murphy and named after her beauty salon, the label provided a home for independent recordings whose vocal performances link church music with soul. The collection pairs Victory Travelers and Elder Ward & The Ward Singers with The Swan Silvertones, The Royal Travelers, Helen Hollins Singers and others. Across ten selections, Belson brings the singers and groups into a single programme focused on the label's musical community. Celestial Echo presents the compilation with remastered audio in a picture sleeve.
