About this release
Greg Henderson's Never Too Late combines the harder electronic rhythms emerging in New York with a vocal rooted in soul and boogie. Recorded at a community studio in Brooklyn and released in 1984, it was the last single Henderson produced for his Rain Records label. Heavy synthesizer parts and drum-machine rhythms frame Rome Jefferies' singing, with Henderson also contributing trumpet. This Backatcha edition puts the vocal on one side and the instrumental on the other, giving the production a second setting without the lead voice. The pairing captures a moment when street-level electronic sounds were changing the shape of dance music.
