About this release
Hyla Parker's Joe / Quiet Tunes brings together two songs written by Ted Daryll, also known as Theodore Meister, for Cheri Records. Joe is a mellow, guitar-led soul stepper, with strings lifting the arrangement around Parker's vocal. Quiet Tunes turns towards a deeper soul setting on the reverse, giving the single a contrasting second side. The pairing returns on Cheri's seven-inch reissue, keeping the original two-song programme intact. This brown-label version comes in a black sleeve, presenting the danceable A-side and its more reflective companion in their original single format.
