About this release
Jan Jones’ Independent Woman brings rich vocals, warm keyboards and a steady rhythm section together in a modern soul arrangement. Written by Jones and produced by John Brinson, the recording balances melodic detail with an easy-moving disco groove. Celestial Echo’s reissue restores the song in two parts, with the vocal-led first section on the A-side and a longer, more open treatment on the reverse. Part 2 gives the arrangement more room to develop, drawing attention to the underlying rhythm. The pairing presents both sections together on seven-inch vinyl.
