About this release
Malik captures Lafayette Afro Rock Band's combination of funk arrangements and African rhythmic influences, developed after the American musicians settled in Paris and began working with producer Pierre Jaubert. Originally released in 1974, the album moves from Djungi's piano and vocoder textures through the percussion of Conga to the horn-led Darkest Light. Seven tracks make up the original programme, showing the band's predominantly instrumental approach across different tempos and arrangements. Strut's STRUT299LPB edition presents that complete sequence on black vinyl, remastered by The Carvery from the original tapes and accompanied by the original album artwork.
