About this release
This Marlena Shaw EP brings together four recordings across two 7-inch singles, tracing the connections between her soul, jazz and funk performances. California Soul opens the first record, backed with Liberation Conversation from The Spice Of Life. The second pairs Let's Wade In The Water with the original single version of Woman Of The Ghetto. The programme places Shaw's direct vocal delivery alongside rhythmic arrangements that range from the swing of California Soul to the faster pulse of Liberation Conversation. Released through Jazzman Special Products, the four-track set follows her movement between vocal soul and jazz-informed funk.
