About this release
Mr. Thelonious pairs two funk and soul edits for Galaxy Sound Company. Give It To You draws on Upp’s 1975 recording, produced by Jeff Beck, bringing Jimmy Copley’s drum break, fills and transitions into sharper focus. The edit keeps the band’s funk-rock character while giving the rhythm more space for mixing. Faded takes the reverse, working with S.S.O. Orchestra’s Faded Lady and its strings, bass and vocal arrangement. The two sides offer contrasting approaches: one centred on a breakbeat, the other on the atmosphere and instrumental detail of a disco-era soul recording.
