About this release
Nu Genea's Bar Mediterraneo brings the sounds of Naples into conversation with the wider Mediterranean. Massimo Di Lena and Lucio Aquilina weave disco, boogie and jazz-funk around acoustic instruments, analogue synths and voices in several languages. Following Nuova Napoli, the duo build an album whose warmth comes as much from its musicians and singers as from its dancefloor grooves.
Marechià pairs Célia Kameni's French vocals with Neapolitan phrasing, while Gelbi features Marzouk Mejri and the distinctive sound of the ney flute. Tienaté sets Fabiana Martone's voice against strings and a folk-disco rhythm; Straniero brings mandolin together with Tony Allen's drumming. From the title track's bittersweet guitar to the choral energy of Vesuvio, these nine songs make room for both close listening and dancing. This NG Records vinyl LP comes in a tip-on sleeve.
