About this release
Spirit of the Living God pairs Roslyn Johnson and Charles McCloud’s gospel singing with the soul arrangements of producer Julius Brockington. Originally issued by Cheri Records in 1982, the nine-track album moves between spiritual devotion, vocal interplay and rhythm-led soul. Songs including ‘God Is’, ‘He’s My Friend’ and ‘The Highest Praise’ use harmonies and call-and-response passages to connect church performance with an early-eighties studio sound. The programme closes with ‘Send Me’, following four tracks on the first side and five on the second. This Cheri Records reissue presents the album on 180g yellow vinyl.
