About this release
Roy Ayers Ubiquity brings vibraphone-led jazz and seventies funk together on Change Up The Groove. Ayers’ playing threads through tightly arranged rhythms, with Bernard Purdie’s drums providing a firm foundation and strings adding detail around the ensemble. Alongside the title track and ‘Sensitize’, the album includes interpretations of Stevie Wonder’s ‘Don’t You Worry ’Bout A Thing’, the MASH theme and ‘Feel Like Makin’ Love’. ‘The Boogie Back’ closes the set with a drum break later sampled by hip-hop producers. This Vampisoul edition returns the album to vinyl, capturing a period in Ayers’ work when jazz improvisation and funk increasingly overlapped.
