About this release
S-Tone Inc. and Toco celebrate the sound of 1970s Brazilian soul and funk on Dona Diva / Funky Gafieira. Italian producer Stefano Tirone’s basslines and guitar work meet the Brazilian singer’s melodies across two tracks for Schema Records.
‘Dona Diva’ leads the seven-inch, backed by the tropical, cinematic groove of ‘Funky Gafieira’. Priscila Ribas adds backing vocals and Gianluca Petrella contributes trombone and the horn arrangements on “Dona Diva”. Saxophone and flute from Stefano “Marlon” Marinoni, Marco Brioschi’s trumpet and Marquinho Baboo’s percussion round out the ensemble. Tirone recorded and mixed both songs at Panorama Studio in Milan, with mastering by Francesco Borrelli.
