About this release
Shimi Sonic opens Un Own with two reworks that connect soul, hip hop and downtempo textures. Coolage leads with an elastic, low-slung rhythm and a prominent vocal, keeping the groove relaxed but firmly defined. On the reverse, Our Time moves into a slower atmosphere, with psychedelic guitar lines rising through the arrangement. The pairing introduces the label's interest in edits and remixes suited to both DJ sets and close listening. Released as a 7 inch, the two tracks place vocal presence, bass and instrumental colour at the centre of Sonic's approach.
