About this release
The Apples bring Fred Wesley and Shlomo Bar into Kings, writing and arranging the album around the two collaborators. Wesley’s trombone and funk background shape the first four tracks, while Bar’s voice and percussion join the band on the reverse. Decks, horns, effects, bass and drums form the group’s core sound, drawing together funk, soul, dub and cut-and-paste techniques. The eight-track programme includes “Howlin’ With Fred”, the title track, “Ani, Ata veHoo” and “Banana Jam”. This Freestyle Records reissue presents the album on vinyl with new remastering and a fresh cut, revisiting the original 2010 release.
