About this release
The Mighty Mocambos recorded A Higher Frequency as a nine-piece band playing live to tape at MPS Studio in Germany’s Black Forest. Their raw funk gains a jazzier setting through Daniel Kimaz’s flute and Guillaume Métenier’s grand piano, Hammond organ and clavinet. ‘Open The Gate’ starts with breakbeats and brass, while ‘Get Loose’ takes a piano-led soul-jazz direction. Nichola Richards sings on ‘Back And Better’, and Carlton Jumel Smith guests on ‘Can’t Stop This Fire’. Across ten tracks, the group moves through cinematic themes, disco-jazz and psychedelic touches. This first vinyl edition comes in a handmade tip-on sleeve.
