About this release
Theodor develop their psychedelic sweet soul sound on Holocene, bringing the group's interest in sixties jazz and seventies soul and funk into a contemporary setting. Acoustic drums and melodic basslines sit beneath warm synthesizers, while two contrasting voices move through falsetto and fuller soul phrasing. The songs turn towards self-reflection, memories of friends and a wider sense of the world around them. Drum machines and instrumental passages add variety without displacing the album's song-led shape. Following their self-titled debut, the band use these ten pieces to refine a relaxed, colourful sound, presented here in a Broc Recordz repress.
