About this release
Himiko Kikuchi's Flying Beagle returns on 180g vinyl, bringing her 1987 album back into focus. The Japanese keyboardist moves between piano, synthesizer and organ across eight tracks, drawing together jazz fusion, funk and the polished sound of late-1980s Japanese studio music. Look Your Back! opens the record, with A Seagull & Clouds and the title track among the first side's highlights.
Kikuchi is joined by guitarist Masatsugu Matsumoto and an extensive cast of rhythm-section and horn players, including musicians associated with Spectrum and AB'S. The ensemble gives her keyboard-led writing a broad instrumental palette, from guitar and percussion to brass and reeds. This Great Tracks / Sony Music Japan reissue presents the complete album, closing with The Second Summer and Ducky Ducky.
