Pete Blaker - New World
LABEL: Hot Biscuit RecordingsFollowing a fiendishly good outing on Razor N Tape, Dutch scalpel fiend Pete Blaker returns to regular home Hot Biscuit Recordings with two more must-check re-edits. Sitting on side A is 'New World', a slowly building delight in which Blaker teases out a loopy, effects-laden, organ-rich mid-tempo groove before introducing rubbery bass guitar, analogue synth stabs and heady snippets of female vocals.
It feels hypnotic, dubbed-out and undeniably cosmic, with Blaker making great use of his obscure source material. Over on side B, 'Down & Dots' is an exploration of the rich seam of untapped edit potential that is funky and occasionally grandiose early 80s disco-rock - all spacey synth surges, gravelly guitars, weighty live drums and sinewy strings.
